Michael Jordan plays basketball. Paula Deen cooks food with bacon grease. Jay Electronica promises music and consistently fails to deliver. This appears to be his niche, and deservedly so. After years of casually brushing off release dates, this is now what he's known for. Unfortunately the music has become secondary to his suspect work ethic. Back in early November rumors started circulating on the internet that Jay had signed with the other Jay, and an announcement was forthcoming.
I was skeptical.
But then, surprisingly, they did make an announcement - and there was even a new song to coincide with the news. The result was cleverly titled "The Announcement".
Jay employed his trademark minimalist production, accompanied by a sample from JFK's "we choose to go to the moon" speech, and did what he does best. While conveying the usual "my raps are better than your raps" shtick, he still manages to weave crazy thought provoking gems throughout. His lyrical prowess on this joint is what makes you excited about what he brings to the table. He manages to take a song that was originally intended as a glorified press release, and references illuminati, World War III, hieroglyphics, scripture, dreams and nahright.
So now, we are basically where we were one year ago. Patiently awaiting for "Act II". Get on that Jay.
